I met Makoto about a week ago. I knew very little about Japan then. Now I know more about that fascinating country, and, of course, about Makoto himself.
Makoto came to the U.S to improve his English. His goal when he goes back to Japan is to become an English teacher.
Here in the U.S, Makoto is going to focus on his speaking and listening skills because, back in Japan, he couldn't practice those skills. He could practice writing and reading by himself, but Japanese people don't care much about practicing English in conversations. Another reason why speaking is challenging to him is the pronunciation; the Japanese language doesn't use the "R" and "L" sounds that we use in English.
Makoto's greatest ambition is making other people happy, and the first step to accomplish it is to become an English teacher.

When I talked with Makoto, I felt same with you!
