Imagination at work

I found this picture very interesting because it shows a relationship between the man and the woman in this painting. That lets you speculate about the nature of that relationship. To me, in the picture, we can see that the man is trying to make her fall in love with him by a serenading her. The woman, in turn, seems to be distant and absorbed in her own thoughts. The house where she lives looks old and dilapidated, so one can imagine the woman is poor and has to work a lot to survive. Maybe it is not that she doesn't like him or is not interested in having a relationship; what might be the problem is that she is always tired and worried about how she is going to get her next paycheck in order to survive. The picture, then, makes you think about how love is not the only important thing in a relationship.
